Getting the Albert B. Alkek Library ready for 21st century researchers

As the intellectual center of the campus, the Albert B. Alkek Library is the most important information resource within the Texas State community and the wider public it serves.

With more than 1.25 million library visitors a year, and growing, Texas State set forth a bold plan to transform the current library into a learning commons, a state-of-the-art facility that offers a functional and flexible place for study, research and collaboration. It will merge technology with comfortable, adaptable furnishings and equipment, extensive information resources, and knowledgeable specialists supporting a wide range of educational and research pursuits.

Initial renovations on the Alkek Library will begin in 2015. The learning commons will evolve in three phases over the next decade. Thanks to an ambitious vision to move from an information storehouse to a dynamic educational and interactive environment, the learning commons opens the door for knowledge seekers to find motivation, collaboration and inspiration.
